Review: 5 Stars and Purest Delight rating for "The Denim Dom"

Saturday, March 9, 2013
Received a great review (5 stars and Purest Delight rating) for The Denim Dom from Shadow at Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews!

"When author Tymber Dalton gets it right, she can rip your soul from your body and put everything back together again. In The Denim Dom, she gets it right. While it is not quite as emotional as some of her previous efforts, (don’t read The Reluctant Dom without a tissue), you feel for both the heroine and her Dom and really pull for them to have their HEA.... Throughout the book, we are treated to updates on characters from Dalton’s earlier books, including The Reluctant Dom, Domme by Default, Cardinal’s Rule and Safe Harbor. However, you don’t need to have read any of them to appreciate the Denim Dom. One of the more interesting aspects of Dalton’s book is that she lives the lifestyle. And she gives some compelling reasons why people are drawn to it, although ultimately, as she demonstrates in the book, it takes experiencing it to understand it. The book does contain bondage, impact play and Master/slave relationships. Overall, this was an excellent read, well-written and fascinating."

Review: 5 Hearts for "The Denim Dom" from Riverina Romantics!

Friday, March 8, 2013
Woot! The Denim Dom received a 5-Heart review from Riverina Romantics! :) Squee!

"I experienced a wide variety of emotions while reading this book. I laughed, got mad and even teared up a bit. This book has characters that tie-in from Tymber's The Suncoast Society series. You don't have to read them to love this book but I would recommend it because you are emotionally connected to more of the characters that way. I read them and loved seeing how those other relationships were progressing. I had been waiting for Tony's story for a while and it didn't disappoint. I would highly recommend this book." What a great way to wake up on a Monday morning, to a wonderful 4-star review from The Romance Reviews for Love Slave for Two: Reckoning!

"This latest and perhaps last installment of Love Slave For Two series is sweet with just the right amount of tension. Ms. Dalton deftly brings all the loose ends from the previous stories together into one united picture...This erotic romance story is recommended to ménage lovers who want that happily ever after."

Do. Not. Read. Reviews. Period.

Tuesday, August 7, 2012

On a Facebook group I'm a member of, a fellow writer lamented a scathing reader review they received where they were (literally) told they should seek out another form of employment, because writing wasn't their forte.

I've made no bones about the fact that one of the worst things a writer can do is read their reviews. Newbie writers, at least. You cannot read reviews until you develop a thick skin and don't let them get to you. A good review will send you soaring, while a bad one will put you in the dumps and make you question your choice to start writing in the first place. (And believe me, writers can do enough of that on their own without reading bad reviews.)

Here is an example, from my book "Love Slave for Two," of why you shouldn't read reviews. These are snippets of reivews about the same book.

The. Same. Book.

Keep that in mind as you read these snippets from different reviews to make up one conglomerate. I separated them with /'s.

--

Oh My God ...... I Love this book . Holy Happy Hell  /  I don't care what people say - it was a great fricking from the beginning to the end.  /  Terrible. That is all I feel like I can say.

The negative reviews already given to this book say it all; poorly planned plot, badly carried out. I only read it out of morbid fascination and curiosity as to whether it would improve. It didn't.  /  This book was my first menage erotic romance novel and it was amazing! I've become a fan of menage things because of this book!  /  Despite the very cheesey title of this book...it is very good. It is long and as a reader you feel very involved in the story.

I'm not going to rehash a synoposis of the book since amazon has done that well enough and it's covered in other reviews. This is a very well written book with well developed characters and a solid storyline that focuses on the developing friendship and romantic relationships of the three main characters.  /  I wanted to shoot Nevie, the big bawl baby main character, with my husband's 45 by the time I got to the middle of the book.  /  It was incredible for me. I so enjoyed the love the triad shared and the depth of their relationships. I was NEVER bored.

This story was sooo good & so steamy!  /  Man was disappointed! When I buy erotic fiction, I actually want it to be erotic. Yes there definately needs to be a plot and the characters need to be developed but there has to be sex, a lot of it, and it has to be good. While there were a couple of moments where I thought, ok here we go, for the most part I had to force myself to keep reading.  /  I have to say this is the best book I have ever read and I have read plenty! Tymber Dalton is very gifted in making you believe that you are the character in the story or at least standing on the side lines watching. I stayed hot and bothered all the way to the last page! This is one of those books that you just can not put down.

Bottom line this book gets a 5. From the intense love scenes to the dynamics of their relationship, this is must have book to add to your collection. Don't let this one pass you by!  /  This book was okay, average if you will, but I'll probably forget about this Tymber Dalton novel as soon as the review is posted.  /  You will find this to be a memorable read! The characters are well written and clearly defined. It was exciting to see the changes in Nevvie as she becomes confident and strong in the arms of her loves. An emotional story with compelling characters is a winner, and with that combination we can overlook some of passages that seem a little wordy.  /  The three main characters are well rounded and I felt like I knew them as people, not just sex objects, at the end of the book. These characters know how to have fun and enjoy blistering sex on the same day. In fact, I was sorry to see the story end. The sex is hot and interesting, but not dark.  /  This book made me laugh, cry and grab a fan repeatedly.

What a let down and I wasn't expecting much to begin with!  /  Love Slave for Two was a well written book. There was a detail in character development that you don't often see in books of this nature.  /  Tastefully written and intoxicating erotic, LOVE SLAVE FOR TWO is addictively passionate. I could not stop reading this book and could have cried when it ended. Instead, I went back to page one and read it again! Tymber Dalton is now on my list of ménage writing authors to watch!  /  Love Slave For Two will always be on my keeper list. This story has stayed with me and I have reread it three times!  /  This book was long winded and did not live up to what I expected. It's okay.

I can't recommend this book enough. Way to go Tymber, you are now my favorite!  /  I'm sure I'll get slammed for this review by someone, but seriously? 5 stars? eh, 1 and a half at best.  /  Well, I read it from a kindle, so I don't know the # of pages....but the books is long, about 3 times the length of an average book. The sex is good (great)...and there is true romance. I loved it, and have now read it twice.  /  Bottom line this book gets a 5. From the intense love scenes to the dynamics of their relationship, this is must have book to add to your collection. Don't let this one pass you by!  /  All in all, Love Slave for Two is a three-star. It's average. I'll continue to read Dalton but won't pick this one up again.  /  Yeeeuuk, bleeuk, icky, poo. WASTE.  /  I highly recommend this book if you enjoy fully developed characters (which doesn't happen in a lot of erotica)and explicit sex between loving partners.  /  Another beautifully written story - thanks Tymber!

Okay, NOW can you understand why writers are fricking crazy?? LOL I mean, you can look at that amalgam and wonder if some of them even read the same book.

And again I say, dear newbie writers, DO NOT READ REVIEWS! LOL

(If you'd like to read "Love Slave for Two," you can buy it HERE from Siren-BookStrand. The latest book in the series, "Love Slave for Two: Reunions" is now available HERE. And book 4 in the series, "Love Slave for Two: Reckoning," will be released on Aug. 27th by Siren-BookStrand.)

Review: "Love and Brimstone" (Brimstone Vampires 1)

Saturday, July 21, 2012
Awoke to a great review from the Guilty Pleasures site for my book, "Love and Brimstone," the first book in my Brimstone Vampires series. 4 starts and a "True Gem" rating! :)

http://www.guiltypleasuresbookreviews.com/2012/07/review-love-and-brimstone-brimstone-vampires-1-by-tymber-dalton.html

"Love and Brimstone is a revised edition of Tymber Dalton’s first published book and showcases her ability to wring emotions from the reader even in this first effort. There were parts that were laugh out loud funny, but there is also tear-inducing tragedy, along with mystery, suspense and breathtaking settings."

http://www.guiltypleasuresbookreviews.com/2012/07/review-cardinals-rule-by-tymber-dalton.html

"I absolutely love the way Tymber makes you care for everyone in the story. She weaves a world that you feel you could just walk into, and characters that stay with a long time after you reach The End. I highly recommend this one! If you are scared of reading this one because like me The Reluctant Dom left you a basket case.. Don’t worry this one will leave you smiling. (I’m telling you this because Tymber gave this hint on her FB wall..lol) I hope y’all enjoy the heck out of this book like I did!!"

Review: "Triple Dog Dare (Triple Trouble 4)"

Woot! I received a great 4.5 star (and A True Gem) rating for "Triple Dog Dare (Triple Trouble 4)" from the  Guilty Pleasures book review site! :)

"I am so excited to see where all my favorite charters end up, and how they get there. The battles between good and evil are so well played that it has me wanting more. I can’t wait for the next installment so that I can see my favorites kick some ass. Tymber has woven a web that will keep us wanting more."

Review: "Red Tide"

Friday, July 6, 2012
Woot! My book "Red Tide" received 4 cups from Coffee Time Romance! :)

http://www.coffeetimeromance.com/BookReviews/redtidebytymberdalton.html

"Red Tide begins slowly, but winds up a page turner. The details about diving and boating are good and not overdone. The age difference between Mitch and Ed starts out important, but ends up being one of the book’s lesser conflicts, with excellent murder and mayhem the primary focus. Their romantic is developed perfectly, which makes the suspense all the better. Ms. Dalton’s dialogues and plot lines are really good. It is not hard to figure out the bad guy, although I enjoy watching his demise wanting to yell, “Got you, scumbag!”, but refrained…barely."

New reviews!

Sunday, June 3, 2012
A few new reviews to crow about! :)

"Red Tide" received 4 stars from The Romance Reviews:

"The story moved at a smooth pace with not a single stray thread. There were times where I thought Ms. Dalton missed a point only to have her bring it up later in the story to connect all the dots. The ending is suspenseful and just how I liked it. I hope this means there will be a sequel. I recommend this book to romance lovers who enjoy friends to lovers theme with a spice of suspense."

"Contractual Obligation" received 4 stars from The Romance Reviews:

"There was not a single extra scene in this book. This book was edited to perfection. The story flowed well and every character had a purpose. I highly recommend this story to ménage lovers who want their cake and eat it too."

"The Reluctant Dom" received 5 stars from Selena-Lost-in-Thought:

"I have never read such a heart wrenching story. There has only been one other series (possibly two) that has provoked so many tears from me. I held my hubs a little tighter as we slept that night. The thought of ever losing him is just to much to bare. While there were definitely some blush-worthy/jaw dropping moments while reading this book, I promise you it is well worth the read."

"Out of the Darkness" received 4.75 stars from Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews:

"I can’t say enough good about this book!! I enjoyed it sooo much. I’m the world’s biggest chicken, but I love stories like this. I am a huge fan of great ghost stories!! This one doesn’t disappoint!! Just when you think you have it all figured out another twist pops up and shocks you!! I put this one up there with classics like the Shining and Amityville. I hope you guys enjoy this one as much as I did!!"

Great review for "Stoneface!"

Friday, December 9, 2011
My novel "Stoneface" received a great review from The Romance Reviews site!

Betrayal, infidelity, jealousy, hot ménage, sanctimonious parents, steadfast best friends, what isn't in this book? Oh right, my favourite erotic genre, BDSM. I can forgive Ms. Dalton leaving out the BDSM because this book drew out various emotions from me – anger, frustration, sorrow, pain, pleasure – the list goes on. Ms. Dalton is an auto-buy.

My advice? Ignore reviews.

Monday, November 7, 2011
I see a few topics come up from time to time on a regular basis from new authors, so I thought I'd blog about it. Topic: reviews.

When you're a new author, you bite your nails and pray the first reviews (professional or reader) come through positive. It's easy for a neutral or negative review to send you plummeting to the depths of despair.

Here's a secret: Reviews don't matter. At all.

If you truly want to be a professional author, develop a thick skin now, because the sad truth is that you will find plenty of people who seem to derive sadistic joy in leaving low ratings, usually without an explanation. Some will leave negative reviews explaining why, and most of those will be little more than barely-legible rants. Even sadder? Some of those reviews will come from review sites.

Good reviews will, at best, give you a momentary blip of an increase in sales. Negative reviews, especially if it's outlandish enough, will more often than not also give you a momentary blip of an increase in sales. (Believe me, readers will see through those snarky, childish slam reviews. You don't need to fight the battle for them, and it will only make you look bad because you cannot win.)

And there are people who apparently have grudges against certain genres or publishers or whatever, and who will, on sites like Goodreads, leave 1- or 2-star reviews without any explanation. I'm talking if you look at their profile, they will rank a WIDE swath of books with 1's and 2's with no explanation whatsoever. (As opposed to people who will leave a reasoned review.) Apparently it's a childish sport they enjoy, and they think they're getting away with it, when the truth is, most professional authors ignore them, if they even see them. (So those of you childish tools who get your jollies doing just that, I've got news for you, you're just spinning your wheels. Hate to disappoint you, but your efforts aren't working.)

So here's the thing you need to do: IGNORE reviews. If you get a good review, fine, quote a snippet from it. Treat negative reviews as if they don't exist. Do not argue with them, don't fight them, don't respond to them. PERIOD. Believe me, I've seen plenty of author meltdowns that went badly, and the readers WILL remember a public author meltdown and blacklist you, but they most likely won't even see the negative review that was left in the first place if you ignore it. If they see it, chances are, they won't even remember it. OR, if it's outrageous enough, they'll buy your book just to see what the fuss is about.

That's a win, my friends.

So laugh off bad reviews. Seriously. Chalk it up to you have officially joined the ranks of professional authors and act professionally: ignore the bad. Do not live and die by reviews. Don't let them ruin your day. Do what I did, and eagerly anticipate your first bad review, because it means you've made it.

Woot! Great review for "Stoneface!"

Wednesday, November 2, 2011
*Snoopy Dancing* I just received a 5-cherry review for "Stoneface" from the Long and Short of It Whipped Cream review site:

http://whippedcream2.blogspot.com/2011/11/stoneface-by-tymber-dalton.html

Ms. Dalton wrote an enthralling tale that showcased her ability to write believable characters with emotions and depth. She captures your attention and you feel like you are a part of their journey and tribulations.
Stoneface is an exceptionally well written story. The love and pain these three characters share is so strong and touching, all you can do is open your heart to them. This is another Dalton tale that will forever be a part of my collection.

Great review for "Stoneface!"

Sunday, October 9, 2011
I received a great review for "Stoneface" from Mary's Naughty Whispers blog:

http://mary-whispers.blogspot.com/2011/10/stoneface-by-tymber-dalton.html

Candy. That is exactly what it is when a new release of Tymber Dalton is out. I do not even question myself. I hardly read the blurb. I just have to get it asap. period.

Thank you!! :) I'm glad you enjoyed it!!

Go fly your own damn kite.

Sunday, March 20, 2011

I know that not everything I write is…mainstream. *cough* It’s not everyone’s cuppa. That’s fine, I get that. What I don’t get is when someone slams something I write not based on the writing or story or, say, something logical like editing or whatever, but because it’s not the way THEY do things.

Huh?

Um, yeah.

Now, when writing BDSM, believe me, I’ve researched the topic. I’ve had manuscripts vetted by people with decades of lifestyle experience. I’m not pulling stuff out of my ass and making it up. (Well, I’m making up the story, of course, but I’m talking about the technical aspects.)

I write about aspects of BDSM that work with the characters and the story I’m weaving. Is it the way everyone does their BDSM? No, of course not. No two people in the lifestyle are exactly alike. It’s like any other hobby. It’d be like slamming someone who flies kites for not flying the same type of kite you do. Does it get off the ground? Do you enjoy flying it? Yes? Then STFU and let me fly my kite.

I realize that a gay Leatherman in San Francisco might practice a different type of kink than a married het couple in Florida, which will be different than a twenty-something in New York City. But it doesn’t make it wrong, just different.

Instead of slamming a book for portraying a different kind of kink than you’re familiar with, try learning from it and relaxing into the story. But don’t slam the book just because it’s “not the way you do it.”

Many of the things I write about in BDSM are either based on conversations with people in the lifestyle or things I’ve personally witnessed first-hand. I don’t go to every BDSM club or private residence to see how everyone else in the whole world does it. I write about what works for my characters and my plot and no, it isn’t the way everyone does it. It’s not even meant to be a commentary on how it “should” be done. It’s simply meant to work within the confines of the story I’m writing.

In other words, if you don’t like what someone writes about BDSM, go fly your own kite and leave the rest of us alone.

"Safe Harbor" up for book of the week!

Saturday, January 23, 2010

*Shameless begging for votes to follow.*

My Tymber Dalton book, "Safe Harbor," is up for book of the week over at Whipped Cream Erotic Romance Reviews. Voting is open until Sunday night, and I would appreciate any and all votes:

Also, I have an interview up on Julia Barrett's blog about writing and writing advice at: http://juliarachelbarrett.com/worth-repeating-lesli-richardson/ Feel free to stop by and comment.

Thanks!

A little insurance.

Wednesday, January 20, 2010
I'm an obsessive backer-upper when it comes to my files. Not every day, which is bad on my part, but redundantly. Two external drives for large quantities of data, plus two thumb drives specifically for works in progress, which fit in holders that go on my keyring and leave the house when I do. I also have CD back-ups in our safety deposit box.

I have been looking into online storage options, and then yesterday on one of the professional lists I'm on, one of the members recommended a place they've been using for a couple of years now. No frills, and admittedly they need a proofreader on their website, but $15 a year. So I'm giving them a try and last night uploaded my writing folder to the server for off-site safekeeping. Since it's web-based, I can access it from anywhere.

I'm one of those paranoid people who thinks if I get the insurance (back-ups), I probably won't need it. *LOL* And it's only $15 a year. If you're interested, the place is: http://www.onlinestoragesolution.com/

Now, here's the catch. If you're not computer savy and need someone to hold your hand, you might get frustrated. When you log into your account (I paid with PayPal and after completion was taken to the set-up page) there are files there that are movies and .pdfs so you can find out how to set up your account. You can access via browser, ftp like Filezilla, or something like NetDrive (which is what I'm using) so it's like a connected external drive.

If I find any issues with it, I'll pass them along, but so far, I'm liking it.

(FTC asshat blog disclaimer, I paid for my own service and am not being reimbursed for this review.)
