Review Round-up

Friday, October 23, 2009
Woot! Some great reviews have come in recently!

Good Will Ghost Hunting: Hell's Bells (Book Two) (writing as Lesli Richardson): Coffee Time Romance - 5 cups!

Hell’s Bells snatches your interest from the very first page. The second in a six book series, it keeps the ball rolling with amazing intensity, and I highly recommend reading them in order. The characters are clever, witty, and all-out lovable, especially Aidan and his new man Jeff. I love a great cliffhanger, but the anticipation of book three is going to be sheer torture.

Domme by Default (writing as Tymber Dalton):
Ecataromance.com - 5 stars!

I enjoyed this story for its artistic view on BDSM, of how a man and a woman can both get what they want from their marriage without sacrificing their close relationship... Tymber Dalton writes exquisitely about this subject of BDSM and I enjoyed every emotionally moving minute of this book.

Love and Brimstone (writing as Lesli Richardson): San Diego Examiner.com - 4 out of 5!

The author’s take on the sometimes oversaturated genre of vampires is fresh and exciting. These vamps are pretty cool and ingenious. I am always willing to forgo the traditional vampire’s tale if they are written in a believable way as these ones are!

Brimstone Blues (writing as Lesli Richardson): San Diego Examiner.com - 4 out of 5!

When an author can make you get this invested into a character, then they have done their job. This reviewer loves the world created by Lesli and she needs more of it. The characters are believable and are far from 2-dimensional. The conflicting emotions are all over the place, yet it fits. Don’t let this one pass you by!

Anastazia Proctor feels like the universe yanked the rug out from under her. Finding out you’re a vampire, surviving multiple attempts on your life, getting engaged to a hunky guy who happens to be your boss, and dealing with your fiancĂ©’s cousin’s death after playing succubus with him can play a mind-trip on anyone.

Can life get any crazier? Now haunted by a devastatingly familiar phantom voice in her brain, Taz struggles to cope with the aftermath, her crazy new powers, and the psychopathic lupine-like “Others” who just won’t give up. But even worse…now she’s got a wedding to plan.

"Dog Walk" Now Available!

My shape-shifter short, "Dog Walk," is now available from Amira Press!!

Like any self-respecting wolf, all Ivan wanted was a morning run in the woods. Was that too much to ask? He never planned to end up in the arms of Lindsey Martinez. He certainly never intended to go home with her. And falling in love with her…definitely not part of his daily to-do list.

Now that he knows she’s the perfect mate for him, how does he break the news to her? How does he reveal his secret without freaking her out? How does he show her she’s not just leading him around by a leash…but by his heart?
--

And the sequel to this story, "Doggy Style," is scheduled for release on 1/23! Whoo hoo!!

Busy busy busy...

Monday, January 12, 2009
Wow, I sat down to tally things up, and I realized it's no wonder I feel like a chicken with my head cut off. (Not that I'm complaining! *LOL*)

I've got several new projects releasing in the next few weeks, both as myself and Tymber Dalton.

I'm also in final edits for "Brimstone Blues," the sequel to my vampire romance, "Love and Brimstone." And even more projects contracted and scheduled for 2009. (With more to come, I'm sure!)

Not enough fingers!

Monday, December 22, 2008
I went this weekend with my husband to a dinner with his co-workers and I was asked several times how many books I've got coming in 2009.

I realized (with some surprise) that it's...a lot. *LOL* NOT complaining, mind you! *G*

And the question, "How do you keep them all straight?" came to mind. That part's easy, because of the software I use and apparently my brain is a compartmentalized freak of nature.

So to count them off, here's what's currently and soon-to-be available:

Currently Available:
Coming Soon:
  • Love at First Bight (Deep Space Mission Corps 1) (Siren-BookStrand, writing as Tymber Dalton) - erotic romance (available for pre-sale now, officially releases on 1/2/09)
  • Doggy Style (Amira Press) - erotic shapeshifter short
  • Dog Walk - erotic shapeshifter short
  • Out of the Darkness (Jan. 19th, Lyrical Press) - dark paranormal thriller/romance
  • Brimstone Blues (Amira Press) - the sequel to Love and Brimstone
  • Domme by Default (Lyrical Press, writing as Tymber Dalton) - BDSM romance novella
  • Good Will Ghost Hunting: Demon Seed (Lyrical Press) - paranormal demon romance
  • Cross Country Chaos (BookStrand) - contemporary romance
  • The Reluctant Dom (Lyrical Press, writing as Tymber Dalton) - BDSM romance novel
  • Good Will Ghost Hunting: Hell's Bells (Lyrical Press) - paranormal demon romance
  • Good Will Ghost Hunting: Hell Hath No Fury (Lyrical Press) - paranormal demon romance
...and that's not counting the sequels I have in progress right now.
  • "Brimstone" series - a total of seven (possibly eight or more)
  • "Good Will Ghost Hunting" series - at least six
  • "Love Slave for Two" series - at least four
  • "Deep Space Mission Corps" series - at least four
...and even more than that floating around in my brain.

Frankly, I treat writing like a job, a business. I have to. Writers who sit and treat it as an art form will continue asking if you want fries with that while they think about their stories. *LOL* This doesn't mean I churn out crap. I know dang well when something I write isn't ready for the light of day, and for every published work you see listed here, I've got at least another 10 ideas stashed in a file or notebook that will never see the light of day. Yes, Virginia, you can write what you love and still have a goal of making money. *LOL* (It shouldn't be your primary drive, however. You need to have a passion for writing because, frankly, it's damn hard work and takes a while to pay off.)

I spent many years writing non-fiction, and I got pretty good at writing on a strict deadline. I can sit down and figure out approximately how many words I need to crank out in a certain time frame to get a book done. I don't outline, per se, I use SuperNotecard to rough out the main points in a story. By doing that, I can get a decent estimate of what my final word count will most likely be. From there, I can ballpark how long it will take me, uninterrupted, to write the thing. Then I add in life, my family, other commitments, edits in progress for other projects, etc. and adjust the time accordingly.

I don't usually get writer's block. If I ever hit a wall in a project, I immediately switch to something else. That's usually more than enough to help me get back on track. And it keeps me productive.

Writing isn't the end of it though. I laugh at newly-published writers who whine that editing and promotions are hard work. *LOL* Well, it's part and parcel of the territory. The hard work doesn't end when you type "The End." It's only just beginning. *LOL*

Catching up - colds, contests, commentary (enough with the alliteration!)

Saturday, December 20, 2008
I'm sick...again. Ugh. I hate having a cold!

"Love Slave for Two" is still having a great run on BookStrand's bestseller list! AND...I got a 5 Blue Ribbon review for it, too!!

5 Blue Ribbons: "I was enthralled and entranced the entire time it took for me to read Love Slave for Two. Tyler and Thomas are a loving couple; a strong couple who love each other very much. But something is missing - not about their love - but with how much love they have to share. They want Nevvie, a girl who comes into their lives on a weekly basis to be the recipient of that love. They want her for their third and the plans they hatch to make that come true is elaborate and well thought out. Each man wants her to know she is loved and each accomplishes that fact. The time and patience each display with Nevvie is beautiful - I wanted to move her out and take her place. Nevvie isn't used to having someone love her. The fact that all of a sudden she has two men loving her - two men who are supposed to be gay - just seems surreal. She loves them and decides to take a chance with them and never look back. Their love is scorching hot, hence why Love Slave for Two has a scorching hot rating with Siren Publishing - but that does not explain how the flames of desire burned. Between the sheets, these two enigmatic men bring Nevvie, and themselves, pleasure unlike anything I have ever read. Tastefully written and intoxicating erotic, Love Slave for Two is addictively passionate. I could not stop reading this book and could have cried when it ended. Instead, I went back to page one and read it again! Tymber Dalton is now on my list of ménage writing authors to watch!" -- Natasha Smith, Romance Junkies

*&^%$ computers, Amira Press Chat today!

Wednesday, October 22, 2008
Two weeks and counting since my laptop died, which is why I've been VERY quiet. I'm using the back up Asus eeePC which is literally the size of a portable DVD player. Tiny keyboard. Great for back up/travel, sucky for 16+ hours a day writing. Ugh. I broke down and bought a Kensington wireless keyboard that's almost like typing on my laptop and it's great. So that's why I've been quiet lately. The eeePC is slower on the internet than my laptop, and the tiny screen makes it hard to do updates. (I finally conficasted dh's laptop today because I'm chatting this afternoon with Amira Press readers -- make sure to come join us! http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AmiraPress/ )

The only "good" thing about not having my laptop is I literally started and finished an entire manuscript that's been submitted to Siren-BookStrand already. *LOL* Hard to get distracted when I don't have my normal links and rss feeds to look through! *LOL*

My cousin, the electronic Rain Man, should have my laptop done hopefully in a day or so. He fixed the first problem, which revealed another problem (display related, not the hard drive thank the gods!) and he's been waiting for the part.

So come join me today at the Amra Press readers group for a chat, excerpts, and fun! (I'm coming dressed as a demon dominatrix for all those of you who were wondering... *LOL*)

And if you haven't joined the Amira Press group yet, remember you can ask for a FREE READ! (Mine is called "Puppy Dog Eyes," it's an unusual were/shapeshifter love story.) So don't forget to request it.

Thanks!

Where do you get YOUR Brimstone?

Top 10 Lines From "Love and Brimstone"

Friday, October 3, 2008
I decided to ask some of my characters from my vampire romance "Love and Brimstone" to list some of their favorite lines/verbal exchanges from the book. (If you haven't picked up your copy yet, you can buy it from Amira Press.) Here are their responses...

10 - tie) "It was for your own good. You must calm down, let us help you through this transition."

"Transition? You can look me in the eye and call it a transition? That's so not the word I would use. Hell-hole, nightmare, disaster—want a thesaurus?"
---
and...
---
"I'm going to pop his head like a grape," she snarked without much enthusiasm.

"I'm sure that will be a great comfort to him, dear."

****************************************

9) "My house is trashed, something evil is trying to kill me for having Rosemary's baby, which I haven't even had. Hell, I haven't had sex in…too damn long, not that it's any of your business."

The slightest trace of a smile touched his mouth. "No, they don't think your baby would be evil."

"Then what?"

"An heir. Able to continue the line. They think you have the genetic make-up, and for some reason, they want you."

"What, are they running Match.com for homicidal freaks? Hello, I so did not sign up for that."

****************************************

8) She was in full snark mode. "Well, why don't we get the Scooby gang together and pull the rubber mask off the bad guy?"

****************************************

7) "I'm warning you, leave now!" She put the hall corner in her sights and tried to quiet her breathing. Her pulse raced, in her throat, in her head, in her chest. Praying she could keep the gun still, she held her breath.

There was another growl, closer. "Don't run, you'll only make the meat tough."

****************************************

6) Why did it attack her? Would another Other come after her?

The Other's brother from another mother.

Okay, that was definitely stress. Lots and lots of stress.

****************************************

5) "Ask me anything you want," he offered.

She thought about it, decided it couldn't hurt to play along. "If you're–" she tried to do the math in her head and gave up, "—around six hundred years old, how the hell did you manage to stay under the radar for so long? And how did you amass such a fortune?

"Six hundred and nine."

"Aw, you don't look a day over five hundred."

****************************************

4) "You go out in the daytime. I spent three fucking days in a car with you," she said to Matthias.

He nodded. "Hollywood lied—imagine that."

****************************************

3) He laughed again, and Robertson sent him a warning look. "The movies are simply that, Taz—movies," Robertson explained. "Most of what popular culture knows about vampires is a myth created by Hollywood, not real-life."

"Because vampires are so misunderstood. Yeah, I get that. And the Tooth Fairy gets screwed while Santa Claus gets all the glory–"

****************************************

2) She looked at Matthias. "And you—you suckered me into this job?"

"I had to keep you safe."

"Oh, great! I worked for Bob Stanley for ten years and was never attacked by a demon once!"

****************************************

...and the #1 line...

1) "What kind of asshole sells automatic weapons to a demon anyway?"
****************************************

If you'd like to read more, hurry over to Amira Press and get your copy of "Love and Brimstone" today! A story with a unique twist on the vampire myth.

Puppy Dog Eyes

By Lesli Richardson

“So, what are you wearing to the party this weekend?” she asked Scudder.

Her team partner didn’t look up from his computer monitor, simply shrugged. The slight gesture of his broad shoulders made her heart race.

“I don’t think I’m going, Tess,” he said.

Tessa Gilroy crossed her arms and leaned against her desk. “Scudder Harris, you’re not telling me you’re going to bail on the company Halloween shindig, are you?”

He shrugged again, and she wished he’d stop doing that. Or take his shirt off before he did. Damn, she bet he had a gorgeous chest…

“That’s exactly what I’m telling you.” He finally leaned back in his chair and swiveled it to meet her gaze, which was deadly to her reserve. Dennis “Scudder” Harris had huge, sweet golden brown eyes that melted her insides and sent all the juices straight to her nether regions, and brilliant jet black hair that glinted with almost blue highlights when they sat outside and ate their lunch.

“Why not?” she asked.

“Why not what?”

“Why aren’t you going?”

He cocked his head. “Because I don’t know many of the people there, and I don’t have a costume.” Employees and their families from all of the regional offices were invited, several hundred people, most likely, would attend.

“It’ll be a full moon, beautiful night, perfect for a costume party. Come on, you have to go so I don’t have to go alone.”

At the mention of the full moon, a cloud crossed his face. “I’ll pass, sorry.”

She’d broken up with her skunk of a boyfriend a week before Scudder came to work for Callahan Consulting five months prior, and been assigned to her team. Team being a misnomer, because it was just the two of them. She knew Scudder was thirty-five, single, and straight, but beyond that, his life was a mystery. They talked about a lot of things, just not about him.

Her pouty face usually won him over. “Please?” She leaned forward, her arms on her desk, trying to entice him to look down her blouse.

He kindly laughed. “Tess, I’m sorry sweetie.”

She recognized the stubborn set of his jaw. Short of begging him to make wild monkey love to her on their shared office floor, she’d thrown just about every hint known to womankind at him that she wanted to go out with him. Well, except outright ask him, but he couldn’t be that thick, could he?

It wasn’t like he didn’t flirt back, because he did. One day in particular left her gasping for breath and heading to the bathroom to freshen up.

And he was gorgeous, six-two and solid, with a fluid, natural gait that left her panting after him when she watched the way his tight ass moved inside his khaki slacks.

“I’m going as a sexy witch,” she purred. “You should see how low–and high–my costume is cut.”

His eyes crinkled. “I’m sure it’s very alluring, kiddo, but we need to get this project done or you won’t be going to any party this weekend because we’ll be working.”

It was Thursday, meaning she had one more work day to convince him to take her to the annual corporate Halloween bash, held at the boss’s large, private estate north of Tampa. She would go regardless, but she didn’t want to go alone if she could talk Scudder into taking her.

At lunch he reached for his small cooler. “You eating with me today?”

She nodded. “Even though you’re standing me up this weekend.” Who was she kidding? They’d eaten together every day since they started working together.

He rolled his eyes, but smiled. “You’re incorrigible, girl.” He gently kicked their door shut and leaned over her desk. “Maybe I’d like to be alone with you, not with a loud, obnoxious group of drunks.”

Her heart pounded as his eyes playfully narrowed. “Just because I don’t want to go to a party with you doesn’t mean I won’t go out with you. All you have to do is ask.”

Speech escaped her for a moment. “I…I thought you didn’t want to go out with me.”

He gently chucked her under the chin. “I just wanted to see how long it took you to come right out and say it.” He straightened and walked to the door, opening it. She still sat at her desk, stunned.

“Well, are we eating lunch or not?”

She nodded, fumbled her lunch bag, and followed him out the door on feet that didn’t seem to touch the floor.
