My grandma is big into re-gifting stuff she has around the house. I think the worst gift was when she gave me some clothes. I'm talking 1970's style that I would NEVER wear. I think there were undergarments in there, but I didn't venture far into the bag. Just thanked her and moved on. Not sure what happened to that bag. Oops

My first Christmas with my now ex-husband he gave me a small teddy bear bank and a thermometer because he had spent all his money a few days before at a bar for his supposed bachelor party (we got married on Christmas Eve). The next year he gave me a small ceramic heater.

Ugly sweater. My sisters and I try to get each other the ugliest piece of clothing possible every year.

The worst present was probably a mix tape that a friend of mine made for me in college to tell me his true feelings. Even though this was about 25 years ago I still remember the shock when I listened to one love song after another. He was a good friend, but that was all he was to me. It was sooooo awkward. I still cringe when I hear some of the songs on the radio.

My husband bought me a ceiling fan for our first year together! Needless to say I WAS not impressed! I never received another impersonal gift from him ever!

  1. the worst present I got was for my birthday, from DH. Snow tires. The kicker--my birthday is in MARCH. LOL I was so angry. I think they were used, too.

But holiday present, I got a bottle of wine from a client when they knew I was 6 mos pregnant.

I got a box of chocolates with a bite taken out of each piece. My brother thought he was funny.

  1. I small gift certificate to a clothing store that wasn't enough to even buy a t-shirt a full price the place was so pricey.

  1. I think the worst was when I was young. Santa gave me a training bra! Needless to say I didn't like Santa too much after that!

  1. SusieJ said...:

Easy one! A pink nightdress that was two sizes too big....no problem thought I..tags still on it so I can exchange it. Queued for 20 mins to reach the customer service desk and was mortified to be told that the store hadn't used tags like that for at least 5 years...this was from my supposed best friend!

My stepdaughter forgot my present when she came over Christmas morning... granted she only lives 10 minutes away... anyway, when she finally brought it over a month and a half later (via urging by my lovely husband) it was a scented plug-in, you know, like the Glade ones? Anyway, not that I need a gift, but it hurt to be forgotten...sigh

The worst I ever got was a gift certificate to Victoria's Secret. You see I am a plus sized lady and that store is NOT for us larger women. The look on my face was priceless I'm sure.

In my family we draw names and my little sister drew my name. Now I am easy to buy for, a gift card is a great present but did she get me that noooo. She got me a case of Mountain Dew.

  1. Melanie said...:

A scarf I had given someone as a gag gift... It was not considered a gag gift when given to me the following year... I think she forgot I gave it to her...

  1. Worst gift hmmm let me see.....oh i know someone gave my son ( i know it was supposed to be a gift to me but i was the one who sufffered for it) a push wagon it was wooden I spent almost two and a half hours putting it together for it to roll twice and proceed to drop apart. The holes werent punched correctly haha joke was on mommy because my son loved the box it came in.

Can it be the worst and also the best? My Aunt made me a big floppy denim hat, about 2 years after they went out of popularity. I loved that hat because she made for me, but it was the worst because of the fashion statement in high school.

A shirt my Mother gave me one year. It was nothing I would wear on a bad day but it still hangs in my closet.

One year I got a sweater from my parents which was truly the ugliest sweater ever! My stepmom must have been pissed at me that year! I was able to hide my shock and say how nice it was and thank them. I never brought it in the house. It was at the thrift store before New Years! Thanks for the contest!

It was a miniature pig tea set with the pig's snout being the cups. I twas give to all the female employees at an office Christmas Party. I re-gifted that sucker as soon as I could,to a family member of course.

  1. A brick. I used to pick up my pressies to see how heavy they were and shake them. Call me naughty. So one Christmas I was given a brick. It drove me crazy trying to figure out what it was. When I opened it on Christmas everyone got a good laugh. Then it somehow became a yearly thing, passing it off to someone else each year.

One year when I was about 12 yrs old my Aunt gave me underwear for Christmas. Not something you exactly want for a present

  1. Anonymous said...:

My 16 year old little brother thought it would be hysterical to wrap up a box of TRASH with one dollar bills hidden inside of it. There were empty chip bags, empty TP rolls, candy wrappers, pop bottles, and inside of SOME of these things were one dollar bills. I believe the total was $10, but I was so irritated at having to dig through trash to get it, I didn't care.

  1. Mary said...:

The worst was the first year we were married, he gave me garage sale signs and a new trash can.

  1. Amy said...:

My now ex got me a hair brush our first Christmas together. I was young and so upset I hid in the bathroom for hours. Good thing I grew up and now am married to a man who lets me pick my gifts:)

  1. Ann Q said...:

One Christmas, my husband gave me a potato peeler and apron. They are still sitting in the cupboard. My family can not wait to see what I get each year, as the presents have not improved. How thick can some people be.annpa@gmail.com

  1. Unknown said...:

I love reading all of the presents on this list. I see lots of "my ex" stories. I can't say that I have a story like that, but my current mother in law gave me an extension cord. Still not sure why.

A friend of my grandfather's once gave me a letter set with some missing envelopes when I was very young. It was more baffling than hurtful as it wasn't someone I expected to get a gift from.

My worst gift would be when someone bought me a beautiful shirt except ...they bought a medium....see I'm a big chested girl I haven't fit In a medium shirt since grade 6 lol....it's called not paying attention when you shop....

  1. They weren't what I got, but my family had drawn names and we were to spend between $10 & $20.00 for the person's gift. I actually spent just a little over $20.00 for the person that I got, plus the same for the person my husband got. When it came time to open gifts my husband got a regifted package of 6 pairs of socks-at the time about $5.00 at the max. I was livid and this was the last time we exchanged gifts with my family. My personal worst was the box of nuts that my husband's niece got us to share one year for about $3.00 on sale. I realized money might have been tight for her, but just admit you can't afford to buy gifts rather than give a couple a can of nuts to share.

When my husband and I were dating, we lived in a town that didn't have many stores. So when BJs (like Costco or Sam's Club) came to a town 30 minutes down the road, he went there to get my birthday present. And he came back with a Smart Mop and a 10# bag of chocolate chips. It was very thoughtful - I do like chocolate, and I did think the commericals made Smart Mops look awesome, but STILL!! :) Now I just tell him what to get me - it ain't romantic, but it's always exactly what I wanted! (cough cough, Kindle Paperwhite)

  1. Crystal said...:

This is pretty pathetic but I really haven't received any bad presents. I guess the worst is a sweater my exes grandparents got for me that wasn't my style so i returned it for something else.

So my mother gives me a piece of wood. With no explanation on what it is. My roommates and I spent 2 days trying to figure it out. When I ask her what it was she says it was a cutting board.

  1. My husband gave me a chia head a a clapper one year! He thought it was funny, I didn't!

  1. Unknown said...:

White socks - to go with the 25 pair I already owned

  1. Lynne Colvill said...:

Worst Christmas present i ever got was when i was little around 8. It was a set of hair accessories from relatives on my mums side just after id have radiation therapy and lost all my hair. Worse thing was my mum still made me write a thank you card and say what a thoughtful present it was!got

  1. I actually have not received any bad Christmas presents, however, I did receive a somewhat tacky birthday gift...when I turned 15, one of my friends gave me a ceramic-looking guitar, you could tell it was hand-made...it was an ashtray O_o maybe their mom picked out the gift from all the stuff her kids had made and wrapped it...who knows!

  1. jenreader said...:

I the worst would be in my teenage years when my sister (14 years older than me) let her son (8 years younger than me) pick out my gift. So getting some type bird that jump around was just what I needed. NOT!!!

Oh, I'm going to sounds like such a thankless, petty person, but this year was probably the worst so far.

The hubs asked me for a list of my favorite authors a few weeks back. I happily obliged! My greedy little mind was thinking wonderful thoughts of signed books by my favorite authors!

A package came last week, he told me I could go ahead and open it. I was soooo excited! Opened it and it WAS a signed first edition of a book. A book that I absolutely HATED! Which is saying a lot for me. I specifically remember bitching about it to him for HOURS while reading it. It's long- winded, dull, and something really bad happens to the hero at the end.

Now I have an expensive, signed, first edition sitting on my book shelf and I cringe every time I look at it :P

My wonderful husband of 38 years now gave me a dehydrator he thought I might like to learn to dry fruit but he really wanted to make deer jerky. It has been used once it has been on my pantry shelf for 10 years now, but since he gives great spankings I think I will keep him.

I recieved a set of napkin rings that I had regifted to this person five years earlier. The box was dusty and dented but had never been opened. We laugh about it every year when we get together.

One of my cousins, who lives in Florida, sent me a sweatshirt with a hideous flamingo on the front. I was baffled because I've never expressed any interest in flamingoes before, but I called to thank her anyway. She told me that she had the same design but on a t-shirt. Mostly I'm just amazed that someone thought it was a great idea to put that flamingo on multiple articles of clothing. This gift has started the Great Flamingo War between us. Each year we find something with Flamingoes to send to the other. The rest of the family thinks we are nuts.
